| This paper introduces the three distinctions on language made by Saussure,Chomsky and Halliday respectively and compares their emphases and significance.Saussure put emphases on both langue and the relationship between langue and parole.Chomsky ne- glects performance totally and eoneeantraes his attention on competence.Halliday concerns more about language potential.By comparing these three distinctions,people are sure to get an insight into how language fimetions and find a more constructive way to probe into lan- guage.` |
